This is our first in a series of interviews with the Awesome Archivists who will be sharing their work and ideas with other awesome archivists at our first meeting on May, 7 at 6:00 p.m.
Megan Good is the Director of the J. Welles Henderson Archives & Library at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia.
MG: The title of my talk is: Apps for Archivists.
Apps is short of course for applications (iPhone, Android, etc.) in case people don’t know.
ABA: What do you hope audiences will get from your talk?
MG: I hope that the audience will find applications that they will be able to use to help make their archival duties easier. Many people have smartphones today, including archivists and librarians, and most do not realize that they could use them to help with research requests, cataloging, processing and other tasks. My goal is to make others aware of programs that they could use to cut down work time since we all have tons to do every day. I’ve tailored the talk towards more of an Apple based device but most of the apps are available on Android or other devices.
ABA: Their archival theories aside, who do you think would win in an Ultimate Fighting Match, Jenkinson or Schellenberg?
MG: I have to go with the American: Schellenberg. He obviously loved coming up with different meanings and levels of value so I’m sure that he put as much work into them as he would preparing for a fighting match.
ABA: On a scale from 1 – 10, (10 being easiest) how easy would it be for other archivists to implement the project you’re presenting here?
MG: 10 for those with smartphones and 1 for those without smartphones. All of the apps are free so there is no cost barrier.
ABA: Thank you Megan! We look forward to hearing your presentation!
